| Basalt fiber Double Sided sheet. This sheet is manufactured using 9 micron plain weave basalt fabric, this gives the sheet practically the same characteristics such as low weight and high strength of our carbon fiber sheets but at a lower cost. The sheet is the natural dark brown Basalt color. Basalt fiber sheets are excellent upgrade replacements for any G-10 Garolite fiberglass application. G-10 tensile strength of 40,000 psi compared to Basalt fiber sheet of 70,000 psi.
The .047" (1.2mm) can be used in light structural applications, the basalt sheet does not show a nice weave pattern as carbon fiber does. The panel has a very nice glossy flat smooth finish on both sides ready for paint. The .047" thickness can NOT be flexed around curves. Since this is a real basalt fiber sheet it can not be bent, molded or shaped with or without heat.
Tools Required: This sheet can be cut with Dremel type rotary tool or jig saw with metal blade. Mark on sheet with a Sharpie marker, marks can be removed with acetone. You can also apply masking tape over areas and mark on that, remove after cutting. Prep surface for painting with 220G sandpaper. Edges can be easily sanded, we recommend wet sanding with maximum 80 grit. |
